On-Campus MPE Sessions
All on-campus testing is free. Advance registration is required.
MPE-Cancelation Policy
Students must cancel their registrations by 12:00pm Thursday (two days before the exam) if they are unable to attend a session. Students who do not attend a registered session without canceling by 12:00pm Thursday will not be eligible to take the MPE on campus for one quarter (includes the next two on campus MPE sessions).
Individual exceptions to this policy can be evaluated by Math Testing and Placement when students submit appropriate documentation to evidence their inability to attend the exam. Undocumented exceptions will not be considered for students who do not attend and do not cancel by 12:00pm Thursday. Please confirm your schedule and ability to attend before registering.

On-Campus MPE Sessions

MPE-Retake Policy
Through April 30, students may retake the MPE after 30 days have elapsed (which is strictly enforced). However, students should enroll in the course that they are placed into (or have advanced to) without delay and not engage in MPE retakes.
Starting May 1, 2026, MPE retakes will NOT be allowed as per the revised MPE-retake policy, and students must enroll in the course that they are placed into. Advancement will occur by completing successive courses in the established Math Pathway determined by their major and/or college.
MPE results are valid for one year. Students who do not enroll in their placed course must retake the MPE if they have not yet enrolled in math and their results have expired to earn a new math placement.
Students with Math 2 placement are on the Place-Up Pathway (PUP) and need take (and pass) the Math 2-to-3B Place-up Exam (PUP-E) to move forward in Math. Retaking the MPE is not allowed. See PUP-Exam for more information.
Important Information
- Pre-registration is required (no walk-ins are allowed).
- Registration closes at 12:00pm the day before the MPE. ***SEATS ARE LIMITED***
- Students can only register for one test date. Multiple dates will be deleted.
- You must cancel your registration by 12:00pm Thursday (2 days before the exam) if you are unable to attend a session (see MPE Cancelation Policy above).
- Check-in begins 20 minutes prior to the start of the exam on the third floor of York Hall in front of Room 3050.
- Late students will not be admitted to the exam.

What you Need for Testing
The following items are needed and permitted for testing:
- Your UCSD PID number. Your results cannot be posted if you do not use your PID number.
- A current photo ID. Accepted IDs include: UC San Diego ID card, State ID or Passport, or High School ID (for first-year students)
- Pencil or pen for calculations
- Calculators are not allowed on the MPE.
Your MPE Results
To view your results. You must use your TritonLink login with your PID as the username.
MPE results are processed and posted everyday (except during holidays or campus closures) during regular office hours the first working day after the test was taken.
