Place Up Pathway Exam (PUP-E)
Beginning in Fall 2025, students registered in or placed into Math 2 move to Math 3B by passing the Math 2 to 3B Place Up Pathway (PUP) Exam.

How You Place Up
Math 2 is the first in a sequence of courses (Math 2, 3B, 3C) that develop foundational knowledge required for Calculus. Students move forward by taking the Place Up Pathway (PUP) Exam. Students are not eligible to take the Math Placement Exam (MPE) again. Once you are placed into Math 3B or higher you move up to the next course by passing your course with a grade of C- or higher.
PUP Exam
The PUP Exam is administered through the Triton Testing Center in the basement of the AP&M building. The exam is 45 minutes, no calculators are allowed, and is free of charge. Generally, Weeks 6-8 the practice exam is offered. Week 10 for the PUP Exam. PUP Exam results released in Week 11 (Finals).
Practice Exam
You should take the practice exam to help you prepare. The practice exam is 45 minutes. The exam is 45 minutes, no calculators are allowed, and is free of charge.
The Place Up Pathway (PUP) Exam and Practice Exam are only offered for limited dates each quarter. We recommend that you sign up as soon as possible as seats may be limited for the practice and PUP Exams. Advance sign up is required. Check this website each quarter for specific dates.
